The Panthers women's basketball team returned from the holiday break to take on #11-ranked Jefferson Community College Thursday in Dryden. The first game in over a month was a tough one for the home team, as Jefferson handed the Panthers a 74-35 defeat. Tompkins Cortland is now 3-5 overall and 1-2 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference. Jefferson is 6-4 overall and 4-0 in the MSAC.
The Panthers fell behind early and never could get back in it against the strong Cannoneers squad. Amyra Pontillos (Sandia Park, N.M./Manzano H.S.) led the home team in scoring with 11 points. Cassie Doane (Candor/Owego Free Academy) had a team-best 10 rebounds and Thalia Jackson (Glendale, Ariz./Raymond S. Kellis H.S.) finished with 9 points and 8 rebounds.
