Panthers Rally in Second Half for Win at Broome

A big second half powered the Tompkins Cortland Community College women's basketball team to a 68-62 win at SUNY Broome on Thursday. Tompkins Cortland improves to 7-7 overall and 5-3 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference. Broome is now 6-8 overall and 3-5 in the MSAC.

The first quarter was all Broome, as the Hornets led 13-6 at the first break. The second quarter was even and the teams went to the locker room with Broome up 31-24. Things started to come alive for the Panthers in the third, outscoring Broome 21-13 to take a 45-44 lead into the fourth final quarter. In the fourth, the visitors put it away by outscoring the home team and stretching the advantage to the final six-point margin.

Three different Panthers had huge games, led by Karissa Wilbur (McGraw/McGraw H.S.) draining five 3-pointers while scoring 24 points and pulling down seven rebounds, swiping six steals, and handing out four assists. Amarionah Dixon (Elmira/Elmira H.S.) had yet another double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds to go with four blocks and three assists. Ariana DeFranco (Cortland/Dryden H.S.) had a career-high 15 points, shooting and impressive 7-of-11 from the floor.

The Panthers travel to Mohawk Valley on Saturday.
