The Tompkins Cortland Community College women's basketball team closed out the regular season on a high note Tuesday, beating Finger Lakes Community College 56-28. Tompkins Cortland is now 5-15 overall and 3-11 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference. Finger Lakes drops to 2-23 overall and 0-14 in the MSAC.
After a tight first quarter the Panthers pulled away with a big second quarter. Leading 14-11 after the first ten minutes, Tompkins Cortland outscored the Lakers 25-8 in the second to take a 39-19 lead into the half. The home team put things away in the third, ending the period ahead 50-21.
Karissa Wilbur (McGraw/McGraw H.S.) had a huge game, scoring 18 points in the first half and finishing with 21 points, 6 assists, and 4 rebounds. Madison Kelly (Moravia/Moravia H.S.) had 10 points, all in the first half, and 9 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals. Thea Holdman (Singapore/International Community School) ended up with 10 points and 7 rebounds, all in the second half. Adrianna Royce (Newfield/Newfield H.S.) grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds while scoring 6 points.
Looking ahead
The Panthers await word on a possible NJCAA Region 3 playoff bid. If the Panthers are chosen, they would most likely play on Saturday.
