Panthers Women Drop Road Game to Region's #2 Team

On Sunday the Tompkins Cortland women's basketball team took a long bus ride that ended with a game against the #2-ranked team in the region. Despite another big game from game from Madison Kelly (Moravia/Moravia H.S.), the result was a 73-41 loss to North Country Community College. With the loss Tompkins Cortland is now 4-12. North Country is 14-2.

North Country entered the game with the highest scoring offense in the region, averaging better than 75 points per game. The Panthers kept within striking distance in the first quarter, ending the period trailing 21-15. Things got away from the Panthers in the middle quarters, with North Country moving out to a 63-31 lead entering the fourth quarter. The final frame was even, with each team scoring 10 points to produce the final score.

Kelly was a highlight for the Panthers, producing 19 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and a block. Karissa Wilbur (McGraw/McGraw H.S.) chipped in with 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals.

Looking ahead

The going doesn't get any easier for the Panthers. Their next game is home Wednesday against the region's top-ranked team, Onondaga Community College.
