A first-quarter hole was just a little too big to dig out of for the Tompkins Cortland women's basketball team Wednesday. Playing at Corning Community College, the Panthers started slowly, falling behind 15-8 after the first quarter. Despite outscoring the Red Barons the rest of the way, the Panthers ended on the wrong end of a 66-61 final. Tompkins Cortland is now 3-11 overall and 2-8 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference. Corning moves to 5-12 overall and 4-5 in the MSAC.

Madison Kelly (Moravia/Moravia H.S.) and Karissa Wilbur (McGraw/McGraw H.S.) had big games for the Panthers. Kelly led the team with 21 points, adding 8 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 assists. Wilbur had 20 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 steals. Simone Smith (Ithaca/Ithaca H.S.) tossed in 12 points and 3 steals.
