A rough weekend for the Tompkins Cortland women's basketball team wrapped up Sunday with a 78-34 loss to Jefferson Community College. After dropping a pair of games over the weekend the Panthers are now 3-5 overall and 2-2 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference. Jefferson is 7-3 overall and 2-0 in the MSAC.

Jefferson entered the game as the third-ranked team in the latest Region 3 poll. The two teams traded the lead four times in the opening minutes, with the Panthers holding a 9-8 lead with four minutes left in the quarter. The next four minutes saw the Cannoneers close out the quarter with an 11-2 run, making the score 19-11 and setting the tone for a decisive second quarter. Over the second ten-minute period, Jefferson scored 32 points to take a 51-16 lead into the half, effectively putting the game out of reach.

As she has in all eight games this season, Madison Kelly (Moravia/Moravia H.S.) reached double figures in scoring, netting a team-best 12 points. Kelly added 6 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 assists. Karissa Wilbur (McGraw/McGraw H.S.) had 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals, and Simone Smith (Ithaca/Ithaca H.S.) led the team with 8 rebounds.
