A cold night from the floor doomed the Tompkins Cortland Community College women's basketball team as the Panthers lost to Herkimer County Community College 66-40 on Tuesday. Tompkins Cortland is now 0-2 while Herkimer improves to 3-0 on the season.

The Panthers shot just 15% from the floor while falling behind 28-11 over the first two quarters. The second half was better, thanks largely to solid fourth quarter that saw the home team convert on 7 of 17 chances (41.2%), but it wasn't enough to get the Panthers back in the game.

Madison Kelly (Moravia/Moravia H.S.) led the Panthers in scoring with 14 points, also posting 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Karissa Wilbur (McGraw/McGraw H.S.) tallied 9 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals and Simone Smith (Ithaca/Ithaca H.S.) tied for the team lead with 8 rebounds.

Looking ahead

The Panthers are off until Saturday, November 20, when they host Mohawk Valley Community College.
