Since returning from the between-semesters break, Tompkins Cortland has had difficulty putting together four solid quarters in any one game. In most games this semester, the Panthers have played well in spurts, winning quarters but not winning games. The pattern continued Wednesday at home against Corning Community College. After leading after one quarter, and tying the game in the third, the Panthers ran out of steam and ended up losing 69-46. The Panthers are now 3-14 overall and 1-9 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference. Corning is 10-12 overall and 5-4 in the MSAC.

The game started well for the home tea, with the Panthers leading by as many as eight points in the first quarter before ending the period with a 15-12 lead. The Red Barons came back in the second, connecting on a 3-pointer in the closing moments of the quarter to take a 29-26 lead into the half. The Panthers tied the game at 31-31 in the opening minutes of the second half, and after Corning regained the lead with four straight, the Panthers pulled within a point at 35-34 with 6:30 left in the third quarter. Things began to fall apart as Corning went on a 14-2 run over the next three minutes to lead 49-36. A mini-run of 6-2 to close out the quarter cut the Panthers' deficit to single digits, 51-42, heading to the final quarter. Needing a spark, the Panthers couldn't get anything going over the final ten minutes, shooting just 16.7% from the floor and getting outscored 18-4.

Three Panthers reached double figures in scoring, led by K'Anndra Rhoden (Brentwood/Brentwood H.S.) with 13 points. The sophomore added 8 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks to her stat line. Ashley Shortsleeve (Cortland/Cortland H.S.) also hit for 13 points, leading the team from behind the arc with three 3-pointers. Kerrin O'Shaughnessy (Worcester/Worcester H.S.) scored 10 points while pulling down 7 rebounds and blocking 3 shots.

The Panthers play next on Saturday at SUNY Adirondack.
