One bad quarter was the difference Wednesday as the Panthers lost at Cayuga Community College 79-57. The Panthers drop to 3-10 overall and 1-5 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference. Cayuga is 7-8 overall and 3-2 in the MSAC.

The Panthers held a two-point lead after the first ten minutes, but the second quarter wasn't kind to the visitors. Cayuga outscored the Panthers 30-7 to take a 41-20 lead into halftime. Tompkins Cortland's offense came back to life in the third quarter, scoring 27 points to 25 for the Spartans. Another tight quarter closed out the game without the Panthers being able to cut into Cayuga's lead.

K'Anndra Rhoden (Brentwood/Brentwood H.S.) paced the Panthers with 17 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Shaylin Heidl (Candor/Candor H.S.) had 14 points, 14 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals. Ashley Shortsleeve (Cortland/Cortland H.S.) added 14 points.

The Panthers are back on the road Saturday at Finger Lakes Community College.
