Another balanced effort produced another comfortable win on Saturday for Tompkins Cortland Community College women's basketball team. The Panthers took control late in the first quarter and cruised to a 70-55 win over Finger Lakes Community College to improve to 6-6 overall and 4-2 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference. Finger Lakes drops to 6-11 overall and 1-5 in the MSAC.

A slow start saw the Panthers fall behind 7-0 before Macy Boice (Homer/Homer H.S.) connected on a three-pointer to get the home team on the board. After Finger Lakes answered with a three-pointer to make it 10-3, the Panthers went on a 14-2 run to close out the quarter. The go-ahead points came on a three-pointer from Mackenzie Constable (Sidney/Sidney H.S.) with 1:50 left in the quarter.

The Panthers never relinquished the lead, out-scoring the Lakers 21-9 in the second quarter and 22-17 in the third to put the game out of reach. The lead grew to 27 early in the fourth quarter before Tompkins Cortland slowed it down and eased to the win.

Amber Whitehead (Deposit/Deposit H.S.) was one of four Panthers scoring in double figures, netting a dozen as part of her second career double-double of 12 points and 15 rebounds. Boice just missed a double-double with 16 points and 9 rebounds, adding 5 assists and 5 steals. Taylor Day (Brooktondale/Ithaca H.S.) rebounded from a cold first half to finish with 15 points and Shantasia Jeffrey (Harlem/Curtis H.S.) tossed in 14 points. Reyanah Brown (Syracuse/Syracuse Academy of Science) helped the Panthers to decisive advantage on the boards (67 to 48) with a game-high 18 rebounds.

Next up for the Panthers is a make-up of a game that was postponed earlier this month. The Panthers will play Monday at Onondaga Community College.
