Medovich Homers Twice, butt Panthers Still Fall to Onondaga

Despite a two-homer game from Andrea Medovich (Kirkwood/Windsor H.S.), the Panthers softball team couldn't pull out a win in Thursday's doubleheader with Onondaga Community College. The losses drop Tompkins Cortland to 5-15 overall and 4-6 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference. Onondaga is 17-14 overall and 8-2 in the MSAC.

Game One: Onondaga 18, Tompkins Cortland 5  (5 innings)

The opener was a close game early, with Medovich ripping a three-run homer in the bottom of the first to make the score 5-3. Onondaga led 7-3 when Medovich drove in another run with a single in the bottom of the third to make it 7-3. The Lazers began to pull away with two in the fourth and then put it away with nine in the top of the fifth. Before the game ended, Medovich came up again in the bottom of the fifth. She completed her 3-for-3 day at the plate by driving drove another ball over the right field fence for her second homer and fifth RBI of the game.

Abby Foley (Barton/Toga H.S.), Gabby Foley (Barton/Tioga H.S.), and Elizabeth Cobb (Cortland/Cortland Christian Academy) each had two hits in the opener.

Game Two: Onondaga 18, Tompkins Cortland 0  (5 innings)

The Panthers hurt themselves in game two, committing eight errors that led to 12 unearned runs. Medovich had another hit in game two, capping her big day at the plate. Austyn Vance (Nichols/Tioga H.S.) had a double and Lana Thousand (Onondaga/Onondaga H.S.) q single for the only other hits for the Panthers in the nightcap.

Looking ahead

With the next two scheduled opponents forfeiting due to a lack of players, the Panthers close out the regular season at Erie Community College on Tuesday, May 7.
