The Panthers softball team faced off with one of the hottest-hitting teams in the region Wednesday, hosting SUNY Adirondack. The result was a pair of losses for the home team, 28-1 ad 10-2. Tompkins Cortland is now 1-17 overall and in Region III. Adirondack is 8-14 overall and 8-6 in Region III.

Adirondack 28, Tompkins Cortland 1 (5 innings)

The visiting Timberwolves blasted six home runs in the opener, including three in the eight-run second inning. Adirondack ripped 25 hits, and the Panthers didn't help their own cause by committing seven errors, helping the visitors score at least three runs in each inning.

At the plate, the Panthers were limited to just three hits, with the lone run coming in the third innings, helped by a pair of Adirondack errors. Elizabeth Ripley (Moravia/Home School), Emily Aloi (Cortland/Homer H.S.), and Tessa Hilker (Dryden/Dryden H.S.) had the hits for the Panthers, each recording a single.

Adirondack 10, Tompkins Cortland 2 (5 innings)

After giving up six long balls in game one, the only homer in game two came off the bat of a Panther. After Adirondack scored five in the first to take the lead, the Panthers got on the board in the third. Roselee Diaz (Harlem/South Bronx Preparatory) led off with a single. Two outs later, Ripley delivered the big blast, the first home run of the season for the Panthers.

The score remained 5-2 until the fourth when Adirondack scored three times. The Timberwolves closed out the game with a pair of runs in the fifth, pushing across the game-ending runs on another error by the Panthers.

Ripley, Diaz, and Amanda Green (Lansing/Lansing H.S.) had the three hits for Tompkins Cortland in game two.

Looking ahead

The Panthers have three more dates on the schedule, and all are home doubleheaders. The next games will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. against Monroe Community College.
