For the second straight year, the Tompkins Cortland Community College men's soccer team made the NJCAA Region 3 playoffs as the #10 seed. And for the second straight year, the Panthers came tantalizingly close to pulling off a first-round upset. On Sunday, the Panthers traveled to #7-seed Hudson Valley Community College and played the Vikings to a 1-1 tie before the Vikings won the penalty kick round to advance to the next round of the playoffs. The Panthers end the season with a record of 3-9-1. Hudson Valley is now 9-5-3 and will take on #2 Genesee Community College in Batavia on Wednesday.

A year after taking Niagara County Community College to overtime in the opening round of the 2021 Region 3 playoffs, the Panthers matched the Vikings through regulation The home team scored in the 17th minute of the first half, but the Panthers responded in the second half with Felipe Aguno (Dominican Republic/Notre Dame H.S.) knotting the score in the 65th minute off an assist by George Hodgkiss (Barnsley, England / Ackworth School).

The two teams went scoreless the rest of regulation and through a pair of overtime periods before the Vikings got the better of the penalty kick round.

Jeremy McGrath (Henderson Harbor/Belleville Henderson H.S.) had 12 saves during regulation and overtime, and added another during the penalty kicks.
