For the second straight week, the Tompkins Cortland Community College men's team took the field against one of the top teams in the nation, playing at #2-ranked Mohawk Valley Community College. The Panthers had a strong effort but came up short, 5-1. Tompkins Cortland is now 0-2-1 on the season. Mohawk Valley is 4-0.
For the second straight week, the players had to deal with extremely strong wind, so strong this week that the game featured a mid-game wind delay. The Panthers were against the wind in the first half, and matched the stiff wind with stiff defense, keeping the high-powered Hawks off the board for the first 40 minutes. With time running out in the half, Mohawk Valley broke through, scoring a pair of goals to lead 2-0 at the break.
The lead grew to 4-0 before the Panthers answered with Terry Paw (Ithaca/Ithaca H.S.) scoring a goal off an assist from Kyle Brown (Dryden/Dryden H.S.). The Hawks tacked on a late goal to make the final 5-1.
Steve Cowulich (Berkshire/Newark Valley H.S.) had eight saves in goal for the Panthers.
Looking ahead
The Panthers return home on May 7 to host Niagara County Community College.
