Javonte Long (Harlem/Vineland H.S.) has done something no other player has done in the nearly 50-year history of men's basketball at Tompkins Cortland Community College – he has been voted the NJCAA Region 3 Player of the Year. The sophomore had previously been voted the Mid-State Athletic Conference Player of the Year, naming him the top player among the eight teams in the MSAC. The Region 3 award was voted on by coaches from all 16 teams in the region. Long's TC3 teammate Marqiis Samuels (Long Island/The Patrick School) was also voted to the all-region team, marking the first time the Panthers have had two players voted all region since Tyseem Lyles and Devin Redden did so in 2013-14.
Previous to 2025, Tompkins Cortland has had seven first-team all-region selections, but never the overall top vote getter. Long earned the respect of the region by leading the Panthers to the regional semifinals. He averaged 18.2 points per game, second best in the region, and topped 20 points 10 times. He was third in the region in steals and was among the leaders in assists and rebounds.
Samuels was selected to the All-Region Third Team, and was also named to the Region 3 All-Tournament Team. He led Region 3 in steals (56) and was among the leaders in scoring (13.5 points per game). During the Region 3 Tournament he led the Panthers in scoring (17 points per game) and steals (3 per game), and tied for the team lead in rebounds (7 per game).
