NJCAA Region 3

Both Tompkins Cortland Community College basketball teams have qualified for the NJCAA postseason.

The men, fresh off claiming a share of the Mid-State Athletic Conference championship for the second straight year, are the #4 seed and earned a bye in the first round of the Region 3 playoffs. The Panthers advance to the quarterfinals where they will play the winner of Tuesday's first-round game between #5 SUNY Adirondack and #12 Clinton Community College. The quarterfinal, semifinal, and final rounds are being held at Herkimer College on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

The Panthers finished the regular season with a Region 3 record of 17-5, including wins over both Adirondack and Clinton. Earlier this week, finished 12-2 in the MSAC, good for the sixth conference championship in program history, and second in the last two years. Javonte Long was voted the Mid-State Athletic Conference Player of the Year. He was joined on the Al-MSAC team by Marqiis Samuels and Kobe Nwosu.

The women earned a return to the postseason as the #10 seed and will play at #7 Finger Lakes Community College Tuesday at 6 p.m. It is the second trip to the playoffs in the last three seasons for the Panthers, and will feature a matchup against a team they played twice during the regular season. The Panthers and Lakers split their games, with each winning on their home floor. The most recent game was a victory for the Finger Lakes on February 15 in a game that Cassie Doane, Tompkins Cortland's All-MSAC selection, missed due to injury.

The winner of Tuesday's game will advance to the quarterfinals of the women's tournament, which will be held Friday at Jefferson Community College.
