Panthers Close Out Regular Season with Huge Output

The Tompkins Cortland men's basketball team closed out the regular season in historic fashion Wednesday, racing to a 117-99 win over Onondaga Community College. The win gives the Panthers a record of 15-8 overall and 12-2 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference, the most conference wins in program history. Onondaga drops to 4-19 overall and 1-13 in the MSAC.

The 117 points represented the most the Panthers have scored in a game since 2007. Khai Pugh (Syracuse/Nottingham H.S.) led the way with the program's first triple-double in more than 10 years (Tyseem Lyles on 1/22/2014), scoring a career-high 41 points to go with 12 rebounds and 10 assists. Marqiis Samuels (Long Island/The Patrick School) poured in 23 points along with 5 assists, 4 steals, and 3 rebounds. Dwain Frazier (Jamaica/Jamaica H.S.) had 16 points and 8 rebounds and Damari Johnson (Binghamton/Johnson City H.S.) had 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists.

Looking ahead

The Panthers head to the postseason as the #2 seed in the upcoming Mid-State Athletic Conference tournament. The four-team tournament will be held February 23-24 at Genesee Community College, with Tompkins Cortland playing in the opener on Friday against #3-seed Jefferson Community College.
