Balanced Panthers Net Third-Straight Win

An attack that featured five players in double figures powered the Panthers men's basketball team to a 103-89 win over Corning Community College on Thursday. Tompkins Cortland is now 3-0 overall and in the Mid-State Athletic Conference. Corning dips to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in the MSAC.

For the third straight game, the Panthers jumped ahead early and never trailed. The first-half spread was as big as 17 points before settling in at 53-40 at the break. The lead was never seriously challenged in the second half, growing to as big as 23 points in the closing minutes before ending with the 103-89 final.

The Panthers had five players score in double figures, and a sixth finished just one point shy. Khai Pugh (Syracuse/Nottingham H.S.) was at it again with another double-double, this time going for 20 points and 14 rebounds. Javonte Long (Harlem/Clayton H.S.) was the leading scorer with 22 points and Marqiis Samuels (Long Island/The Patrick School) just missed a double-double with 16 points and 9 assists. Bryan Viscaino (Manhattan/Monsignor Scanlon H.S.) also scored 16 points and Damari Johnson (Binghamton/Johnson City H.S.) tossed in 14 points. Kobe Nwosu (Spring Valley/North Rockland H.S.) nearly made it a half dozen in double figures, scoring nine points.
