Panthers Men Complete Weekend Sweep

The Tompkins Cortland Community College men's basketball team completed a weekend sweep of Mid-State Athletic Conference opponents on Sunday, beating Jefferson Community College 81-70. Tompkins Cortland is now 8-7 overall and 6-4 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference. Jefferson is 6-9 overall and 5-5 in the MSAC.

The game was close from the start, with the lead changing hands 15 times and the score tied another 15 times. The last tie came with 7:35 left in the game at 60-60, but seven straight points from Makai Reed (Syracuse/Syracuse Academy of Sciences) put the home team ahead for good. The lead continued to grow over the closing minutes, topping at 13 points with 3:11 left before settling in at an even dozen at the final horn.

Reed led all scorers with 19 points, adding six rebounds, four assists, and a steal to his stat line. Damari Johnson (Binghamton/Johnson City H.S.) finished with 18 points, including ten straight at one point in the second half. Cristian Rosa (Yonkers/Lincoln H.S.) poured in 17 points, including 15 on five 3-pointers. Deamontae Riley (Buffalo/Burgard H.S.) posted 10 points and nine rebounds.

The Panthers play at SUNY Broome on Wednesday.
