Panthers Men's Basketball Closes Out Season at Home

The Tompkins Cortland men's basketball team dropped its season finale Saturday, losing at home to Cayuga Community College 78-71. The Panthers finish the season with a record of 5-17 overall and 1-11 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference. Cayuga is now 8-14 overall and 4-7 in the MSAC.

The lead changed sides five times in the first half, with Tompkins Cortland holding a 41-40 lead at the break. The second half opened with Cayuga using a 9-0 run to move in front. It would be the last lead change of the game. The Panthers were able to come back and tie the game at 65-65 with 3:05 left, but the Spartans scored the next seven points to rebuild a cushion. Tompkins Cortland rallied again, getting to within a point at 72-71 with 46.2 seconds left, but Cayuga sealed the game by going 4-for-4 at the line over the final 20 seconds.

All three sophomores scored in double figures for the Panthers. Jaiden Allen (Marlboro/Marlboro H.S.) led the team with 23 points while also posting 6 rebounds and 2 steals. Devonte Henry (Brooklyn/Boys and Girls H.S.) had 12 points and 5 rebounds and Brandan Paul (Middletown/Progress H.S.) finished with 10 points and 7 rebounds.
