With two of the team's top three scorers sidelined with injuries, Tompkins Cortland battled to the end on Wednesday, coming up just short on the road, losing 89-86 at Cayuga Community College. The Panthers fall to 4-11 overall and 1-5 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference. Cayuga is 7-9 overall and 3-2 in the MSAC.
Vernell Reid (Syracuse/Bishop Ludden H.S.) led the Panthers with 22 points while also grabbing 3 rebounds and dishing out 2 assists. Devonte Henry (Brooklyn/Boys and Girls H.S.) poured in 21 points to go with 12 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season. Derek Brower (Queens/Half Hollow Hills West H.S.) added 13 points and Brandan Paul (Middletown/Progress H.S.) chipped in with 12 points and 8 rebounds.
The Panthers next play Saturday at Finger Lakes Community College.
