A tight game most of the way ended with the Tompkins Cortland men's basketball team fading to a 77-66 loss at Corning Community College on Tuesday. The result drops the Panthers 4-9 overall and 1-3 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference. Corning moves to 7-8 overall and 2-1 in the MSAC.
The margin was just two points at the half, with the Red Barons clinging to a 31-29 lead. With six minutes left to play, the Panthers were within five points at 59-54, but the final minutes saw the Red Barons pull away for the 11-point win.
Marven Louissaint (Brooklyn/Erasmus Hall H.S.) paced the team with 28 points and 12 rebounds, his second double-double of the season. Vernell Reid (Syracuse/Bishop Ludden H.S.) also had a career-high with 16 points.
The Panthers return home to take on Onondaga Community College Saturday at noon.
