Panthers Open Second Half with Win

A big second half powered Tompkins Cortland to a 93-82 win over SUNY Broome Saturday. Tompkins Cortland is now 4-7 overall and 1-2 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference. Broome drops to 5-10 overall and 0-2 in conference.

It took the first 20 minutes for the Panthers to shake off the effects of the month-long break. After falling behind 47-40 in the first half, Tompkins Cortland took control in the second half, outscoring the Hornets 53-35 to pull away with the double-digit win.

Five Panthers scored in double figures, led by Brandan Paul (Middletown/Progress H.S.) pouring in 18 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Derek Brower (Queens/Half Hollow Hills West H.S.) posted 16 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 assists while Marven Louissaint (Brooklyn/Erasmus Hall H.S.) just missed a double-double with 14 points and 9 rebounds. Gabriel Blenman (Brooklyn/George Westinghouse H.S.) and Vernell Reid (Syracuse/Bishop Ludden H.S.) each had 12 points, with Blenman adding a team-high 6 assists.

The Panthers play at home Sunday against Hudson Valley Community College.
