The Tompkins Cortland Community College men's basketball season came to a close Saturday with a hard-fought 86-75 home loss to conference-leading Cayuga Community College. Tompkins Cortland ends the season with a record of 6-17 overall and 1-11 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference while Cayuga is now 9-2 in conference and 18-5 overall.

On an afternoon the Panther honored its lone sophomore, the injured Tahleek Weekes (South Queens/Construction H.S.), the team had to rely on a lineup entirely made up of freshmen. The first half was back-and-forth, with 11 lead changes and 8 ties. The horn sounded with Cayuga holding 36-32 lead, tying the biggest lead of the half for either team. The second half saw the Spartans push the lead to 19 points early, and despite a valiant effort that got the margin down to six points in the closing minutes, the Panthers couldn't come all the way back. By the final horn, the biggest difference came at the free throw line. Each team missed four free throws, but Cayuga took 30 free throws compared to just 10 attempts for the home team.

Four Panthers scored in double figures, led by 21 points from Jonathan Baker (Staten Island/Curtis H.S.). Mario Antenor (Lauderdale Lakes, Fla./Coconut Creek H.S.) had 15 and Shareef Ali (Queens/Martin Van Buren H.S.) and Tyrese Richardson (Congers/Clarkstown North H.S.) each had 14. Ali led the team with 8 rebounds while Richardson had a team-best 6 assists.
