Panthers End Semester with Win

The Tompkins Cortland Community College men's basketball team closed out the fall semester with a 73-66 win over Hudson Valley Community College Sunday. The victory leaves improves the Panthers with a record of 5-5 overall and 5-4 in Region III heading into the break for final exams and the holidays. Hudson Valley is 4-8 overall and 3-6 in region.

The Panthers led 30-26 at the half and stretched it to a high of eight points at 52-44 with under nine minutes to play. The Vikings pulled within two in the closing minutes, but the Panthers never lost the lead the rest of the way.

Jonathan Baker (Staten Island/Curtis H.S.) scored 17 points, including 15 in the second half. Tahleek Weekes (South Queens/Construction H.S.) had 16 points and Mario Antenor (Lauderdale Lakes, Fla./Coconut Creek) had 12. Bakary Magas (Harlem/Heritage H.S.) finished with 18 rebounds and 9 points.

The Panthers won't return to the court for nearly a month. The next game on the schedule is a non-region contest at Davis College on January 8.
