The Tompkins Cortland Community College men's basketball team closed out its first win of the season in style Sunday, scoring the last 11 points of the game in an 83-70 win over Fulton-Montgomery Community College. The Panthers are now 1-1 on the season, while Fulton-Montgomery is 0-1.

The Panthers and Raiders traded the lead seven times, and the score was tied five times. The last lead change came with 4:08 left in the game, when Dqui Berry (Jamaica/Grover Cleveland H.S.) stole the ball, sparking a break that ended with a Mario Antenor (Lauderdale Lakes, Fla./Coconut Creek H.S.) layup and a 69-67 lead. A possession later, another steal, this one by Jaisym Smith (Roosevelt/Roosevelt H.S.) lead to points, with Jonathan Baker (Staten Island/Curtis H.S.) draining a three-pointer to make the score 72-67 with 2:57 left. The Raiders came back with a three-pointer to make it 72-70 with 2:16 left, but it was as close as the visitors would get. The final 11 of the game came from the Panthers, as Tahleek Weekes (South Queens/Construction H.S.), Antenor, and Baker combined to go 9-of-10 from the free throw line over the final two minutes to seal the win.

Five Panthers finished the game scoring in double digits, led by 19 points from Weekes. The sophomore scored 16 in the second half, and finished the game one rebound shy of a double-double. Baker also ha d a big second half, scoring 14 after the break to finish the game with 16 points. Berry scored 12, helping the home team to a 23-18 advantage in bench points. Antenor also had 12 points, and Bakary Magas (Harlem/Heritage H.S.) finished with 11.

The Panthers are home again Tuesday, hosting Schenectady County Community College at 5 p.m.
