A rally that ended with a win in game one and a rally that came up just short in game two gave the Panthers a doubleheader split with Corning Community College on Thursday. TC3 is in now 7-19 overall, 3-9 in the Region 3 West Division, and 5-13 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference. Corning stands at 2-26 overall, 1-19 in the West Division, and 1-9 in the MSAC.

Game One: Tompkins Cortland 7, Corning 6

The games were scheduled to be played in Dryden, but with the field on the TC3 campus too wet, the doubleheader was moved to Corning. Despite playing on the road, the Panthers were still the home team and had last at bats – and they needed it. With the game tied at 6-6, the game came down to the bottom of the seventh. With two outs, Naseer Harris (Austell, Ga./South Cobb H.S.) singled to drive in Julian Poleon (Brooklyn/Abraham Lincoln H.S.) with the game-winner.

Talfourd Wynne (Philadelphia/Indian River H.S.) took the mound in relief, throwing two and two-thirds innings of scoreless ball to earn the win.  Aiden Huften (Union-Endicott/Union-Endicott H.S.) led the offense by going 3-for-4 with a double.

Game Two: Corning 5, Tompkins Cortland 4

The Panthers were quiet early in game two, falling behind 5-0 after three innings. In the bottom of the fifth the offense came to life, plating four runs before the inning ended with runners on second and third base. The scoring ended at that point for both teams, leaving the Panthers with the one-run loss.

Looking ahead

The Panthers are back on the road Saturday, playing at Jamestown Community College.
