A big last-inning rally helped the Panthers snap a ten-game skid and propelled the team to a doubleheader sweep of Corning Community College on Sunday. The Panthers are now 6-16 overall, 2-6 in the Region 3 West Division, and 4-10 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference. Corning falls to 1-23 overall, 0-16 in the West Division, and 0-8 in the MSAC.
Game One: Tompkins Cortland 9, Corning 6
The Panthers trailed 6-2 after six innings, but rallied by scoring seven runs in their last at bats. The team managed the outburst on just two hits, taking advantage of an error and five free passes by Corning pitchers to pull out the win.
Game Two: Tompkins Cortland 10, Corning 1
The Panthers completed their first doubleheader sweep of the season by running away from the Red Barons in game two. After each team scored in the first inning, TC3 moved in front with two in the third inning. Another run in the fifth made it 4-1, and the Panthers put it away with four in the sixth.
Looking ahead
The Panthers head to Canandaigua on Monday for a rescheduled doubleheader with Finger Lakes Community College.
