The Panthers jumped ahead with three runs in the first inning, but Corning chipped away at the lead and eventually held moved in front, 5-4, heading to the last inning. In the last at-bats, the first two Panthers got out, bringing Frank Marra (Millstone Township, N.J./Allentown) to the plate as the last hope. The sophomore delivered with a single, and then came around to score when Kannon VanDuzer (Sayre, Pa./Sayre Area H.S.) followed with a double. Smith put the Panthers back in front with another double to sore VanDuzer. By the time the rally ended, four Panthers had touched the plate and the core stood at 8-5. Talfourd Wynne (Philadelphia/Indian River H.S.) took the mound and worked a scoreless bottom of the seventh to earn the save.
