Panthers Drop Opening Doubleheader at Cayuga

Playing for the first time in 2024, the Panthers baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Cayuga Community College, losing 12-2 and 12-3. While it was the season opener for Tompkins Cortland, Cayuga is now 2-2 on the year.

Game One: Cayuga 12, Tompkins Cortland 2  (6 innings)

Tompkins Cortland started the game with a lead after plating a run in the top of the first, but Cayuga answered with three in the bottom of the inning and the Panthers never led again. Three Panthers had multiple hits in the opener. Dan Mrowinski (Syracuse/Solvay H.S.) and Talfourd Wynne (Philadelphia/Indian River H.S.) each went 2-for-2 and Kannon VanDuzer (Sayre, Penn./Sayre Area H.S.) collected two hits in three at bats.

Game Two: Cayuga 12, Tompkins Cortland 3

Frank Marra (Millstone Township, N.J./Allentown) was the lone Panther with multiple hits in game two, going 2-for-4 at the plate. Tompkins Cortland again sored first with a run in the top of the first, but again failed to hold the lead as the Spartans responded and raced away with the sweep.
