Panthers Baseball Drops Road Pair to Jamestown

The Tompkins Cortland Community College baseball team dropped a pair of games on the road Thursday, losing to Jamestown Community College 11-10 and 10-0. Tompkins Cortland is now 0-4 overall and 0-2 in West Division while Jamestown is 3-11 overall and 2-2 in West Division.

Game One: Jamestown 11, Tompkins Cortland 10

The Panthers scored first, plating a pair on a two-run homer in the first inning by Ledy Alvarez (Guayaquil, Ecuador). The Jayhawks cut into the lead with a run in the first, setting up a back-and-forth game that saw he Panthers take a lead into the bottom of the seventh before an error allowed Jamestown to pull out the win.

Alvarez finished 2-for-4 with four RBI. Dan Mrowinski (Syracuse/Solvay H.S.) went 2-for-4 with two RBI, and Kannon VanDuzer (Sayre, Penn./Sayre Area H.S.) and Jeremy McGrath (Henderson Harbor/Belleville Henderson H.S.) each had a pair of hits.

Game Two: Jamestown 10, Tompkins Cortland 0  (5 innings)

The offense struggled to put together a rally in game two, managing just three hits and three walks over five innings. Starting pitcher Gabriel Fonseca (Miami, Fla./Mater Lakes Academy) kept Jamestown at bay early, putting up zeros in the first and second inning and allowing just a single run in the third. Things went sideways in the fourth, with the Jayhawks plating seven runs to take command. Two more runs in the bottom of the fifth ended the game due to the run rule.

Alvarez again led the hitters, going 2-for-2. Mrowinski collected the other hit in game two for the Panthers.

Looking ahead

With Saturday's scheduled games already postponed, the Panthers next play on Sunday vs. Genesee Community College. The doubleheader starts at 1 p.m. at Gutchess Park in Cortlandville.
