The Tompkins Cortland baseball team on Saturday started its season-ending stretch of three doubleheaders against the top two teams in the region. Hosting West Division-leading Erie Community College, the Panthers dropped both ends of the doubleheader, 10-1 and 14-1. Tompkins Cortland is now 4-25 overall and 2-21 in Region 3 West Division. Erie is 37-10-1 overall and 22-2 in the West Division.

Game One: Erie 10, Tompkins Cortland 1

Erie jumped ahead early, taking advantage of four walks in the first inning to score four runs. Three more in the second extended the lead, and by the time the Panthers got in the board in the fourth, the score was 8-1.

Jacob Bogacz (Morrisville/Morrisville-Eaton H.S.) and Gabriel Fonseca (Miami, Fla./Mater Lakes Academy) each went 2-for-3, with Bogacz scoring the lone run on a groundout by Shane Smith (Groton/Groton H.S.).

Game Two: Erie 14, Tompkins Cortland 1  (5 innings)

The offense continued to scuffle in game two, recording just one hit. The lone run came in the second inning when Bogacz walked, moved to second on a groundout, and then raced home to score on a single by Fonseca. Three other Panthers reached via walks, but none advanced past first base.
