It was another quiet day for the bats as the Panthers baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Finger Lakes Community College on Saturday, losing 17-1 and 16-1. Tompkins Cortland is now 4-20 overall and 2-16 in Region 3 West Division. Finger Lakes is 30-18 overall and 17-9 in West Division.

Game One: Finger Lakes 17, Tompkins Cortland 1  (5 innings)

The Lakers jumped out in game one, scoring four runs in the first inning and five in the second. Four more in the each of the third and fourth innings capped the scoring for the visitors. The Panthers plated their lone run in the fourth, with Shane Smith (Groton/Groton H.S.) scoring to prevent the shutout.

Smith and Dylan Higgins (Trumansburg/Charles O. Dickerson H.S.) each went 2-for-3 at the plate, with Higgins collecting the lone RBI. Jacob Bogacz (Morrisville/Morrisville-Eaton H.S.) and Brayden Ferris (Candor/Candor H.S.) also had base hits for the home team.

Game Two: Finger Lakes 16, Tompkins Cortland 1  (6 innings)

The second game started much better for the Panthers, with starting pitcher Ferris keeping the Lakers off the board the first two innings. In the bottom of the second, Bogacz led off with a single and eventually came around to score on a two-out double by Eli Gordon (Ithaca/Ithaca H.S.). The lead lasted just until the next inning, when the Lakers scored three times. Two in the fourth, four in the fifth, and seventh in the sixth provided the final margin and ended the game due to the 10-run rule.

Gordon ended the game 2-for-3, accounting for half of Tompkins Cortland's hits in the nightcap. Bogacz and Gabriel Fonseca (Miami, Fla./Mater Lakes Academy) each had a single in game two.

Looking ahead
