The Panther baseball team dropped a road doubleheader at Genesee Community College Saturday, falling 11-1 and 11-2. Tompkins Cortland is now 2-6 overall and 0-6 in Region 3 West Division games. Genesee is 12-8 overall and 5-3 in the West Division.

Game One: Genesee 11, Tompkins Cortland 1   (5 innings)

The day started well for the Panthers, with Dylan Higgins (Trumansburg/Charles O. Dickerson H.S.) giving the visitors the lead with an RBI triple in the top of the first. Genesee answered with a run in the bottom of the first and then extended the lead with runs in the second and third innings. While Tompkins Cortland struggled at the plate, the Cougars blew the game open with seven runs in the fourth. Another run in the bottom of the fifth made the score 11-1 and ended the game due to the ten-run rule.

Higgins was the only Panther to record a hit in the opener. Nick Cody (Cortland/Cortland H.S.) started the game on the mound and was tagged with the loss.

Game Two: Genesee 11, Tompkins Cortland 2

Genesee started the second game with a run in the first and two more in the second. After the Panthers were retired in order for the third straight inning, Genesee plated five in the bottom of the third to put the thing out of reach. The Panthers scored their runs in the fifth and sixth innings, extending the Cougars to the full seven innings.

The Panthers were limited to a pair of singles in game two. Nate Macek (Pittsford/Rush Henrietta H.S.) had one of the singles along with an RBI. Gabriel Fonseca (Miami, Fla./Mater Lakes Academy) had the other hit and scored a run.
