Returning to the diamond for the first time in two weeks after a series of rainouts, the Tompkins Cortland baseball team hit the road for a tall task – a doubleheader with #5-ranked Niagara County Community College. The Trailblazers took control early in both games, sweeping the Panthers 10-0 and 15-0. Tompkins Cortland is now 2-4 overall and 0-4 in Region 3 West Division games. Niagara is 21-7 overall and 6-2 in the West Division.

Game One: Niagara 10, Tompkins Cortland 0   (5 innings)

Niagara jumped out with six runs in the first inning and cruised to the five-inning win. Dan Caverly (Farmington/Victor H.S.) and Jacob Bogacz (Morrisville/Morrisville-Eaton H.S.) had the only hits of game one for the Panthers, with Caverly stroking a double for the only extra-base hit of the day for Tompkins Cortland.

Game Two: Niagara 15, Tompkins Cortland 0   (5 innings)

The home team again wasted no time in putting the game out of reach, plating nine runs over the first two innings. Nate Macek (Pittsford/Rush Henrietta H.S.) and Jordan Shortsleeve (Cortland/Cortland H.S.) each had a hit to account for the game two total.

Looking ahead

The Panthers are scheduled to play at Genesee Community College on Saturday.
