Panthers Volleyball Goes 1-2 at Onondaga POD

The Tompkins Cortland Community College volleyball team earned its first win of the season Saturday, beating Cayuga Community College in straight sets to close out a day of three Region III matches. The Panthers dropped the first two matches, both in straight sets, to Jefferson Community College and Onondaga Community College. As a result of the day's action, the Panthers are now 1-4 overall and 1-2 in Region III competition.

The day opened with the Panthers taking on Jefferson, falling to one of the top teams in the region by scores of 25-10, 25-21, 25-11. Onondaga was the next opponent, with the Lazers topping the Panthers 25-11, 25-20, 25-10. The last match of the day brought the first win, with the Panthers beating Cayuga 25-13, 25-21, 25-22.

Molly Baker (Newark Valley/Newark Valley H.S.) had another big day, ripping 17 kills, 4 aces, and 4 blocks. Erin Harkenrider (Dryden/Dryden H.S.) had nine aces and eight kills while Kadija Hill-Custis (Syracuse/Fowler H.S.) finished with seven kills and four aces. Natasha Feocco (Dryden/Newfield H.S.) dished out 31 assists on the day.

This Panthers return to Syracuse Tuesday for a Mid-State Athletic Conference match with Onondaga. The next regional contests come Saturday at the Region III Pod hosted by Fulton-Montgomery Community College.
