A late rally came up short on Sunday as the Panthers women's soccer team dropped a home game to Genesee Community College. The loss drops Tompkins Cortland to 0-8-1 overall and 0-4-1 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference. Genesee improves to 7-2-2 overall and 4-1-1 in the MSAC.

Genesee came in playing well, having just one loss in their last nine games. The Cougars had the better of play in the first half, scoring twice to take a 2-0 lead into the break. A goal in the opening seconds of the second half made it 3-0, but the Panthers stiffened defensively and started to get more possessions. Just past the midpoint of the second half, the Panthers broke through. Emma Lobdell (Dryden/Dryden H.S.) took a free kick from 30 yards and played a pretty ball to the front of the goal when Lauren Reeves (Cortland/Groton H.S.) laid out for a diving header, making the score 3-1. The Panthers continued to fight, but couldn't cut into the lead the rest of the way. Genesee scored the final goal with under a second left on the clock, making the final 4-1.

Emily McCracken (Truxton/Penn Foster Online) was fantastic in goal, recording 24 saves for the Panthers.

Looking ahead

The Panthers close the season on the road, playing at SUNY Broome Wednesday.
