Late Goals Sink Panthers Women

Three late goals turned a tied game into a loss for the Tompkins Cortland Community College women's soccer team Saturday. The Panthers were tied with Onondaga Community College past the midway point of the second half before the Lazers score three straight to win 6-3. The loss leaves the Panthers with a record of 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference. Onondaga is 4-2 overall and 3-1 in the MSAC.

Brianna Allen (Marion/Marion H.S.) started the scoring in the tenth minute of play, scoring off an assist from Cristina Torres (Ellenville/Ellenville H.S.). Onondaga answered with two goals, but Torres knotted the score with a goal off an assist from Paris Good (Syracuse/Ithaca H.S.) in the 20th minute. The Lazers scored late in the half to take a 3-2 lead into the break.

Allen netted her second goal in the 60th minute, this time off an assist from Shannon DeRosa (Poughquag/Arlington H.S.). The score remained tied at 3-3 for about five minutes before Onondaga scored twice in about a minute, taking a 5-3 lead. The last goal came in the 88th minute, making the final 6-3 in favor of the home team.

Kerrin O'Shaughnessy (Worcester/Worcester H.S.) made eight saves in goal for the Panthers.

The Panthers return home Tuesday to host Genesee Community College at 4 p.m.
