Playing at home for the first time this season, the Tompkins Cortland Community College women's soccer team came up just short, losing 1-0 to Erie Community College. The loss leaves the Panthers with a record of 1-2 on the year while Erie improves to 3-1 with the win.

After going nearly two weeks since their last game, the Panthers showed some rust early. Each team had moments of controlling play in the first half, but neither had a great chance until the closing minutes. With 2:01 left in the first half, the Kats capitalized on an opportunity, getting the ball in the box and beating the Panthers keeper for the score.

The second half started with the Panthers on the attack, putting together several organized runs in the first five minutes of play. The combination of Brianna Allen (Marion/Marion H.S.) to Shannon DeRosa (Poughquag/Arlington H.S.) put together a great scoring chance just three minutes into play, with DeRosa's shot from inside the box getting deflected out of play by the Erie keeper. Several other chances throughout the half came up empty, including a flurry of action in the closing minutes as the Panthers made a last run at tying the game. Elise Clavel (Ithaca/Lehman Alternative School) and Paris Good (Syracuse/Ithaca H.S.) each threatened in the closing moments, but no Panther was able to find the range and score the equalizer.

Kerrin O'Shaughnessy (Worcester/Worcester H.S.) had a good game in goal, recording four saves.

The Panthers return to action Tuesday, hosting Columbia-Greene Community College at 5 p.m.
