Three different Tompkins Cortland Community College women's basketball players posted double-doubles Sunday as the Panthers picked up a 65-56 win over Fulton-Montgomery Community College. The home-opener win evens Tompkins Cortland's record at 1-1. It was the season opener for Fulton-Montgomery.

The Panthers opened strong, scoring the first 11 points of the game and keeping Fulton-Montgomery scoreless for more than five minutes. The Raiders slowly crept back, but the Panthers led 15-7 after the first quarter and 31-25 at the half. The margin slipped to five points midway through the third quarter, but three-pointers by Taylor Day (Brooktondale/Ithaca H.S.) and MacKenzie Kenyon (Ovid/South Seneca H.S.) on consecutive possessions pushed the lead to 51-40 late in the quarter. The break came with the score at 53-41.

The fourth saw Fulton-Montgomery make a final push, but a sequence midway through the quarter seemed to erase any doubt in the end result. Jaida Washington (Elmira/Elmira H.S.) started the play with a blocked shot, which Kenyon gathered and fired down court to Reyanah Brown (Syracuse/Syracuse Academy of Science) for the fast break bucket. The layup gave the Panthers the biggest lead of the day at 13 points, and the margin remained in double figures until the closing seconds of the game.

Kenyon led the way with 20 points and 11 rebounds, adding five assists and four steals. Washington had another huge game with 12 points, 14 rebounds, seven blocks, and six steals. Brown had 12 points and 12 boards, while Day just missed the double-double club, tossing in 17 points and grabbing eight rebounds.

The Panthers are home again Tuesday, hosting Schenectady County Community College at 7 p.m.
