The Tompkins Cortland Community College softball team hosted Jamestown Community College on Thursday for the home finale for the Panthers. The Jayhawks made it a disappointing finale, topping the Panthers 15-1 and 9-1. Tompkins Cortland is now 0-14; the wins were the first of the season for Jamestown (2-13).
Game One: Jamestown 15, Tompkins Cortland 1 (5 innings)
The game opened with Shalynn Bizardi (Montezuma/Dana L. West H.S.) leading off with a bunt hit and taking second on a throwing error. Brittany Barillaro (Marathon/Groton H.S.) followed with her first RBI of the season, driving in Bizardi for the early 1-0 lead. The score held until the third before Jamestown took advantage of five errors by the Panthers to score six runs. Nine more runs in the fifth provided the final margin.
Bizardi and Barillaro each collected another hit and finished the game as the only Panthers to get base hits. Abby Villnave (Homer/Homer H.S.) reached base twice on walks. Kari Mosher (Horseheads/Horseheads H.S.) took the loss in the circle, allowing just three earned runs while striking out six.
Game Two: Jamestown 9, Tompkins Cortland 1 (6 innings)
The Jayhawks scored two in the first inning of the second game, and then steadily tacked on more runs in the following frames. A run in the second and three more in the fourth made the score 6-0 heading to the fifth. A scoreless inning sent the game to the sixth.
In the sixth, Villnave opened the inning with a double, and then moved to third on a wild pitch. Back-to-back strikeouts threatened to strand Villnave at third, but Mosher came through with the clutch hit, getting the Panthers on the board. The game ended in the bottom of the sixth with Jamestown hitting a three-run homer that ended the game due to the run rule.
Mosher was the only Panther with multiple hits in game two, going 2-for-3.
