Too many errors and not enough hitting proved to be a costly combination for the Tompkins Cortland Community College softball team Saturday as the Panthers dropped a doubleheader to Genesee Community College, 18-3 and 10-0. Tompkins Cortland is now 0-8 on the season. Genesee improves to 5-7.
Game One: Genesee 18, Tompkins Cortland 3 (5 innings)
The Panthers had some major challenges in the field in the opener. Starting with a miscue in the first inning that opened the door for two runs to score, the Panthers had errors in each inning. Pitcher Kari Mosher (Horseheads/Horseheads H.S.) pitched much better than the score suggests. She was charged with allowing 18 runs, but only four were earned runs.
Abby Villnave (Homer/homer H.S.) and Morgan Gunn (Groton/Groton H.S.) each had two hits to lead the offense.
Game Two: Genesee 10, Tompkins Cortland 0 (5 innings)
The Panthers managed just three baserunners in game two, and none advanced past first base. Adrianna Royce (Newfield/Newfield H.S.) had two of the hits, with Villnave collecting the other. Mosher took the loss in the circle, this time allowing six earned runs among the ten total for Genesee.
Looking ahead
The Panthers are set to host Niagara County Community College Sunday at noon.
