The Tompkins Cortland Community College men's soccer team continued its hot start with a 1-0 win over Jamestown Community College on Wednesday in Dryden. The Panthers are now 4-0-2 overall and 4-0-1 in Region 3. Jamestown is 1-8-1 overall and 1-5-1 in Region 3.

The lone goal came in the first half. Adin Philips (Perth, Scotland/Grammar H.S.) started the play with a free kick on goal that the keeper couldn't control. As the ball slipped away from the keeper, George Dickinson (Castleford, England/Ackworth School) was on hand to poke it toward the goal where Jahmier Klee (Elmira/Elmira H.S.) tapped it in. The lone goal held up, as the Panthers' defense, anchored by solid play in goal from Jack Phelan (Rockville Centre/South Side H.S.), kept the slate clean.

A highlight came very early in the second half, as the Jayhawks came out with pressure. Just 90 seconds into the half, a Jamestown attack brought Phelan out with an aggressive contest. When the ball ended up with an open Jayhawk in the box, it looked like an opportunity for the equalizer, but George Hodgkiss (Barnsley, England/Ackworth School) made the play of the day, getting in between the ball and stopping the shot before it could cross the goal line.

Looking ahead

The Panthers have a step up in competition when they travel to Batavia on Sunday to take on #2-ranked Genesee Community College.
