The Tompkins Cortland Community College men's soccer team remained undefeated on the season, playing Hudson Valley Community College to a 1-1 tie on Wednesday in Dryden. The Panthers are now 3-0-2 overall and 3-0-1 in Region 3. Hudson Valley stands at 1-2-1.

For the first time this season, the Panthers trailed in a game. The visiting Vikings struck early, earning a penalty kick on a handball call against Tompkins Cortland in the box. When Hudson Valley player converted, the home team was in the hole for the first time in five games. The deficit lasted 20 minutes before the Panthers could answer. In the 32nd minute, Adin Philips (Perth, Scotland/Grammar H.S.) worked the ball into the box and when the keeper came at him, he slid a perfect pass to Victor Santos (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/SESI Emilia Massanti) for the tap-in equalizer.

The score remained tied the rest of the first half and all of the second, despite opportunities for the Panthers. The best chance came early in the second half, when a feed from the defensive end found a Panther positioned for a 1-on-1 breakaway chance, but an offside call brought the play, and the scoring opportunity, to a premature end.

Jack Phelan (Rockville Centre/South Side H.S.) finished with four saves in goal.

Looking ahead

The Panthers have a week off before returning to action on Wednesday, September 20 at home vs. Jamestown Community College.
