Coach Coffman takes over as head coach for the 2023-24 season, after being an integral part of the program's success since he joined the staff in 2015. In his first season he helped guide a dramatic improvement in team defense, seeing the team's GAA drop from more than 14.5 in 2014 to less than 8.9 in 2015. As the defensive coordinator, Coffman has seen the Panthers rank among the national leaders in goals allowed each season. He has mentored several all-conference and all-region performers, including defender Chase Kiner, who became the first All-American in program history in 2021. Coach Coffman's work is a big reason why the program earned its first NJCAA National Ranking in 2017 and continues to be among the nation's elite teams.

Coffman's experience in lacrosse is extensive. Prior to joining the Tompkins Cortland staff, Coffman played close defense at Ithaca High and was a letter winner for both lacrosse and golf at Alfred University. After graduating from Alfred, he returned to his high school alma mater where he coached 13 US Lacrosse High School All-Americans and also guided the Little Red J.V. to an undefeated record in 2012.

He served as the head coach for NIKE RISINGS’ Section IV 2011-2013, Ithaca Skunks Lake Placid U19, and the Ithaca Lax Varsity Travel Team in addition to coaching the STX Rising Division I Showcase. Coffman has coached every level of lacrosse at Ithaca High School, and currently coaches with Rochester-based 3d Upstate, part of the national lacrosse company 3d Lacrosse. He also was a coach for the 2022 Philippines Men's National Lacrosse team at the 2023 World Lacrosse Championship Asia Pacific Qualifier in Jeju Island, South Korea.
