The Panthers hosted perennial power Onondaga Community College for a Mid-State Athletic Conference lacrosse game on Wednesday. The Panthers had some good moments, but ultimately fell victim to the high-powered Lazers attack, losing by a final score of 23-5. TC3 is now 1-1 on the year; Onondaga stands at 2-1.
The start was good for the Panthers. Onondaga scored first in the fourth minute of play, but Mark Darling (Cortland/Cortland H.S.) answered with a goal off an assist from Dwain Frazier (Jamaica/Jamaica H.S.), tying the score two minutes later. The game remained deadlocked at 1-1 into the sixth minute of play before Onondaga regained the lead. Two scores over the next five minutes made it 4-1, but the Lazers used a flourish of three goals in the final minute of the quarter to take command at 7-1. The visitors put up another seven goals in the second quarter and six more in the third, but the Panthers finished the game on a high note, outscoring the Lazers 4-3 in the final quarter of play.
Darling finished with a team-best three goals. Dillon Farrell (Endicott/Union-Endicott H.S.) had two goals and two assists, and Frazier had one assist. Qymani Viera-Powell (Endicott/Union-Endicott H.S.) had a great day in the circle, winning 18 of 27 face-offs, and Skyler Running Rabbit (Siksika Nation, Alberta/Strathmore H.S.) led the team with five groundballs. Goalie Declan Vail (Cortland/Cortland H.S.) was solid in the net, recording 18 saves
