The Tompkins Cortland Community College lacrosse team got back in the win column Wednesday as 12 different players got in the scoring column of a 21-3 win over Finger Lakes Community College. The victory improves the Panthers to 3-1 overall on the year while also securing a perfect record in Mid-State Athletic Conference play (2-0). Finger Lakes drops to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the MSAC.
The last time out was an off night for the Panthers offense. That wasn't the case on Wednesday as the goals came fast and furious. Julian Mangino (Ithaca/Ithaca H.S.) kicked off the scoring with a goal in the second minute of play. The lead was up to 3-0 at the end of the first quarter and grew to 10-2 by halftime. An eight-goal third quarter made it 18-2 before the final horn sounded with the 21-3 score.
Ethan Hicks (Dryden/Dryden H.S.) had a big day, netting 6 goals and 5 assists. Ryan Pritchard (Montrose/Hendrick Hudson H.S.) had 4 goals and 1 assist, Joey Shufelt (Dryden/Dryden H.S.) had 3 goals and 1 assist, and Mangino ended up with 3 goals. Alan Porter-Jackson (Buchanan/Hendrick Hudson H.S.) had 2 goals and 1 assist and Colum Swan (Tully/Tully H.S.) had 1 goal and 2 assists. De'Aundrey Bethea (Bay Shore/Bay Shore H.S.) and Anthony Capicotti (Buchanan/Hendrick Hudson H.S.) each had 1 goal, Brent Hulslander (Horseheads/Horseheads H.S.) had 2 assists, and Zach Mallory (Homer/Homer H.S.), Avery Watson (Watkins Glen/Watkins Glen H.S.), and Skylar Running Rabbit (Siksika Nation/Strathmore H.S.) each had 1 assist.
Running Rabbit had another dominating day with face offs, winning 20 of 24. Declan Fullerton (Westchester/Walter Panas H.S.) earned the win in goal, playing the first half and recording 5 saves.
Looking ahead
The Panthers square off against on the #1-ranked team in the country on Sunday. Tompkins Cortland will play against Nassau Community College in a neutral-site game hosted by Roundout Valley High School in Accord, N.Y.
