Panthers Lacrosse Dominates at Mohawk Valley

After opening the season with an exciting overtime win, the Panthers lacrosse team had built up some frustration while losing four straight entering Wednesday night's road game. Playing at Mohawk Valley Community College, the Panthers were able to take out their frustrations to the tune of a 17-2 win over the Hawks. The win improves Tompkins Cortland's record to 2-4 while Mohawk Valley drops to 0-3.

The Panthers were in control from the opening face-off, scoring five goals in the first quarter and eight more in the second to take a 13-0 lead into halftime. The Panthers scored twice in each of the third and fourth quarters while the Hawks put one in the net in each quarter to make the final 17-2.

Pat Hartnett (Cortland/Cortland H.S.) had another big game, scoring nine points on three goals and a school record-tying six assists. Jacob Lewis (Freeville/Dryden H.S.) had six points on four goals and two assists and Tyler Ponticello (Homer/Homer H.S.) was huge, scoring five points on three goals and two assists while also dominating face-offs, winning 19 of 22.

Dante Cuttino (Tully/Tully H.S.) finished with four points on three goals and an assists and Josh Canaan (Tully/Tully H.S.) had three points on two goals and an assist. Kyle Harrington (Cortland/Cortland H.S.) and Anthony Albern (Dryden/Dryden H.S.) both scored their first collegiate point, each scoring a goal. Goalie Ben Pallone (Cortland/Cortland H.S.) earned the win with 14 saves.

 Looking ahead

The Panthers return home on Saturday, April 13 to host Herkimer County Community College. It is the final home game of the season and sophomores will be recognized prior to the noon start.
