Sophomore Sean McDaniel (Dryden/Dryden H.S.) is in contention at the midway point of the NJCAA Region III Golf Championship after firing an opening day 83. As a team, the Panthers put up a score of 364 and sands in fifth place, just two strokes behind fourth place. Niagara County Community College leads the tournament with a 326 and Cayuga Community College is second at 333. Onondaga Community College is at 352 with Herkimer County Community College in fourth, just ahead of the Panthers.

Day one of the two-day tournament brought unseasonably cold temperatures, rain, and wind to the Timber Banks Golf Club in Baldwinsville. McDaniel had the best luck battling the elements, finishing the day just five strokes behind the tournament leaders and in position to make a run at both an all-region finish and a spot in the NJCAA National Tournament. Jake Woods (Cortland/Cortland H.S.) was next at 90 with Garrett Davenport (Newfield/Ithaca H.S.) at 92. Jacob Beber (Fort Ann/Fort Ann H.S.) completed the team with a 99.

Looking ahead

Day Two of the NJCAA Region III Championship Tournament is scheduled for Tuesday. Beber is slated to tee off at 9 a.m., Davenport at 9:20, Woods at 9:40, and McDaniel at 10:10.
