The final tournament before regionals should give the Tompkins Cortland Community College golf team reason for optimism. Playing at the Genesee Community College Invitational, the Panthers fired a team score of 328 to take third place, just ten strokes behind champion Niagara County Community College. The 328 represents the third best team score of the season and a 40-stroke improvement over Saturday's score.
Daniel Lapp (Trumansburg/Charles O. Dickerson H.S.) continued his dominant season with another medalist performance. The sophomore finished with a two-under par to win the event by two strokes. It also marks the second time this season Lapp has finished a tournament under par.
Tyler Clark (Odessa-Montour H.S./Odessa) fired an 80 and Sean McDaniel (Dryden/Dryden H.S.) had an 88. William Stouffer (Candor/Candor H.S.) carded a 90 and Alex Sanford (Cortland/Cortland H.S.) rounded out the team with a 98.
The Genesee Invite marks the end of the regular season. The Panthers will field a team of four for the NJCAA Region III Championship Monday and Tuesday. The championship, which serves as a team and individual national qualifier, is being hosted by Onondaga Community College at Timber Banks Golf Course in Baldwinsville.
